From the Chairman
To serve the Danville/Boyle County community as a volunteer leader of the Chamber has been a pleasure throughout my tenure, first as a director and now as chairman. It is fulfilling to see measurable results—a growing membership, award-winning programs, and some of the biggest strides in downtown development in the past ten years—made possible in part by the foundation laid by previous Chamber leaders.
The Chamber has consistently worked to foster good relations between the business community and Centre College. This positive relationship paved the way for Centre’s decision to open a new bookstore and coffee shop in the central business district, becoming an anchor for additional retail activity. This is just one influence that keeps Downtown Danville moving forward as other communities struggle. Having our public library, an outstanding regional medical center, countless physician offices, and essential business services in the central business district also supports our growth.
While the Chamber works to enhance the climate for its business, professional, and industrial members, the entire community benefits from its active leadership. The Chamber is currently collaboratng to create a county-wide economic development partnership that will bring all local development entities under a new umbrella organization, with the Chamber, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Heart of Danville as integral partners. The board of directors is working closely with other community leaders to form a cohesive and efficient group that will have the flexibility to function effectively in today’s competitive environment.
